Louis Miller, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, son of Louis Miller, West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin Descendants of Louis (Lewis) Miller, Jr. Generation No. 1 1. LOUIS (LEWIS)2 MILLER, JR. June 29, 1906 in Michigan; Widow Civil War Pension App # 842.244, Certificate # 950.765. He married ELIZABETH "LILLEY" ? Abt. 1879 in unk7. She was born 1858 in Michigan8, and died Aft. 1930 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan.
See 1895 Paul, Michigan, where Louis lived when his mother died, just ESE of Grand Rapids from http://www.livgenmi.com/kentMI.htm Notes for LOUIS (LEWIS) MILLER, JR.: Louis Miller, Jr was 17 yrs old went enlisting (Feb 18, 1865) in the 48th Wisconsin Infantry Reg. Company e, and 17 when he mustered out in Dec 30, 1865; so his birthday maybe between Jan 1 and Feb 18. He listed for one year, mustering in Milwaukee, but crediting West Bend, Washington County. He received a bounty of $100 for enlisting of which he got $33.33 with balance due on mustering out.. He is described as being light in complexion, brown eyes and hair and 5 ft 7 in tall. On June 30, 1865, he rec'd another $33.33 plus an allotment of $87.66 for clothing in kind or money advanced (This may have included the $33.33). Since the paperwork rec'd from the NARA were incomplete (?) Louis may have mustered out in Feb 1866 ? Then where did he go? Did he become the sheriff of West Bend, not his father? No, he wasn't the Sheriff; this was confirmed by Julia's obit Apr 19, 1899 where it says that her husband Louis was the Sheriff. It noted that Louis Jr. was living in Paul, Michigan. Cousin Bob Miller located Paul, Michigan in Kent Co., now part of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The entries for a Ludwig Miller living in Milwaukee may not have been him since he was in Michigan in 1880 working as a mason. Why the move to Michigan? Had he met someone, like his future wife while in Milwaukee, even though she was born in Michigan?
