Submitting Gewürztraminer Wines for Review:
Wines should be submitted to
GWTRAMINER SAMPLER, W259 N9116 Hwy 164, Hartland,
WI. 53029-9010, U.S.A.
There is no charge or reimbursement for wines
submitted, and though all submitted wines will be tasted, I can't guarantee that
this will occur, or that a review will appear on this website. For each wine
submitted, please send (2) bottles, unless limited by production, then (1)
bottle will be satisfactory.

Note: The foundation for this index to the Gewurztraminer
producers of Alsace, France was Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide, 3rd Edition,
by Robert M. Parker, Jr., 1993. All wine tasting notes/comments are either those
of the respective winery and/or of dealers of wine & spirits on the
internet. Where possible, the origin/source of the tasting note/comment is
given, if known.
In Parker's Wine
Buyer's Guide, 1989 - 1990 Edition, by Robert M. Parker, Jr., A Fireside Book,
© 1989, on page 52, he lists what he considered the best Gewurztraminers of
Alsace. I've identified these producers/vineyards below with an # before
the producer's name. Note: Not all of a Producer's product may have this
designation, in fact some vintages dating after Mr. Parker's publication may not
considered the best.
From
the tasting notes and ratings I've seen, Zind-Humbrecht is probably considered
the best overall Gewurztraminer producer, and is the benchmark to measure
Alsatian Gewurztraminer against.

Roland Schmitt
Gewurztraminer Glintzberg Cuvée Lucille 2002, This late-harvest bottling,
though not sweet enough to qualify for official Vendanges Tardives
classification, normally contains about 1.5% residual sugar and is named after
their daughter Lucille who was born in 1992. This tradition has held since
before Roland's death in 1993 and will continue as the next generation of Julien
and Bruno take over from their mother Anne-Marie. 2002 was an exceptional
vintage in Alsace, and the late harvest wines show excellent balance and
richness. This bottling has classic lychee, nutmeg and spice aromas followed by
a wine with firm acidity and just enough residual sugar to balance it. Very long
and fine. $17.99
