Oregon Gewürztraminer Wine Index "In Vino Veritas" (Truth in Vine) Updated 04/06/2007 Oregon's earliest Gewürztraminer (Traminer) grape wine plantings are Richard Sommer's HillCrest Vineyard near Roseburg in 1961 where small amounts were cultivated, And perhaps, Charles Coury, who planted a wide range of Alsatian varieties [including, presumably - Gewürztraminer (Traminer)]. Traminer may have been included by Louis Herbold as early as 1934 with the 65 French varieties he planted. Hood River Vineyards Gewürztraminer; RP - "This winery....has a growing reputation for its Gewürztraminer..., which, unfortunately, I was unable to taste." Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide, 1989 - 1990 Edition. Clear Creek Distillery Marc de Gewurztraminer (Grappa): Winemaker note: This is the classic Alsatian marc. In the progression from floral to "earthy" the marc is a fairly big jump. The Gewurzt. nose is good but a little more woody than the muscat. There is a little more jolt in the initial taste, but the finish is clean, not hot. Like all my marc or grappa this one is made in the most traditional style—pure pomace from the winemakers press. In recent years I have been getting my pomace from Tyee Winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. I like their Gewuztraminer wine a lot. 750ml Marc de Gewurztraminer, $39.95; 375ml Marc de Gewurztraminer, $24.95; 50ml Marc de Gewurztraminer, $4.50 Notice: No endorsement or sponsorship of this website by any wine grower, producer, or importer has been given, or is implied.
